Current research projects carried out by the Unit of Visual Culture, such as the EU funded Networked Cultures project, examine a variety of artistic and architectural approaches to questions of spatial co-existence that offer innovative models of societal connectivity and collective spatial practices.

The FWF project Relational Architecture brings together the social, ethical and cultural conditions of architectural space with concepts of relational aesthetics and introduces new notions of access, participation and agency into the architectural discourse.

Since summer 2010 the FWF project Other Markets has carried out worldwide investigations into the spaces of informal trade that have become key sites of the ongoing processes of transurbanisation.
